Flamenco, Art and Music

This presentation traces the contribution of the quintessentially Spanish cultural phenomenon to the history of figurative art: from Manet’s fascination with bullfighting and dance, to the experiments of the avant-garde. Also to be enjoyed are works from John Singer Sargent, Goya, Joan Miro, Francis Picabia, the avant-garde Sonia Delaunay, and even Man Ray. Plus a special look at the work by the costume designer, Natalia Goncharnova. We dive into how flamenco attracted the Bohemia and Andalusian cultures (against the ideals at the time) from the South, to Madrid and then to Barcelona around the turn of the century.

You’ll feel as if you are seated in the front row to some of the most pivotal performances by flamenco’s legendary dancers, singers and guitarists, that inspired so many artists and society alike.
