Stroll through Barcelona's fanciful Modernist architecture
Modernisme & Gaudí
Even people that are not interested in architecture cannot help being enchanted by Antoni Gaudí’s fanciful, candy colored works that swirl through the streets of Barcelona and up to the heavens above. What most people don’t know is that he was one of a number of revolutionary Catalan architects, including Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch. These architects not only created ornate works, their Modernisme movement helped Catalonia create a visual identity and spearheaded the Catalan Independence movement.
This half day tour explores the work of “Gaudí & Co.” We stroll down the elegant Passeig de Gràcia, past Gaudí’s flowery Casa Battló, Josep Puig i Cadafalch’s geometric fantasy Casa Amatller (once the home of Barcelona’s leading chocolate merchant) and visit La Pedrera- Gaudís Gotham like masterpiece of undulating stone balconies.
Following this we can tour the iconic Sagrada Familia or visit the mosaic encrusted lizards and gingerbread houses in refreshing Park Güell.
