The Botín Experience
Situated in the medieval Austrias area of Madrid, Botín restaurant was founded by Frenchman Jean Botín in 1725 and has been in the González family for four generations. The restaurant has been visited by people from all over the world, including royalty, politicians, writers and Hollywood stars.
Insider’s Travel is proud to work exclusively with the González family to bring you The Botín Experience. This includes a guided tour of the restaurant, its history, its art and its anecdotes. Following the tour, we will serve you a variety of dishes: The Classics of Botín. This signature meal includes the house specialty: suckling pig, roasted in the original oven from 1725. Delicious alternatives are served to our vegetarian guests. When it’s time to leave, we have a gift for you to take away and keep as a reminder of your time with us at Botín.
What to Expect
Visit the medieval underground bodega.
See the original oven from 1725, where your meal is cooked.
Channel famous past souls – from Hemingway and Frank Sinatra to Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth.
Price: 78€ per person, includes all applicable taxes. Children aged 12 & under, 39€.
Available: Every day, by reservation only.
Meeting Place: In front of Restaurante Sobrino de Botín,

Meeting Times: 12:00 pm or 7:00 pm.
Duration: 45-minute tour followed by lunch or dinner.
What’s included: The guided tour, meal and a ceramic gift per household.
- Please be aware that when traveling from the historic center, arrival to Botín on foot is often the fastest!
- We recommend arriving a few minutes early. If you are late (we start at 12pm and 7pm on the dot!), please knock on the door and let the Botín staff know you are there to join the tour and they will lead you to the group.
- As there are many stairs in Botín, please let us know if someone in your group has mobility issues so we can best accommodate you.
- While this is a small group tour, your party will be seated separately.
- When seated, please advise the server of any special dietary requirements so they can advise you of an alternative option.

Perk of taking the tour is you also get to pick which area you would like to sit in plus we were given a Botin gift at the end of the tour. I received a pitcher and the others received plates all painted with Botín on them. What a nice touch and something we can keep to remind us of our experience. “Our tour guide was Phil and he was extremely personable and well informed. Margaret, I assume she runs the office, was most efficient. The restaurant itself is worth going to but with the private tour you learn so much about its history. Since the tour is conducted prior to opening of the restaurant you have a good opportunity and ample time to look behind the scenes to some extent and to enjoy the many stories and memorabilia. We had a great waiter as well and had the opportunity to dine at Hemingway’s corner table.”
