Cadiz History, Heritage and Foodie Tour

historical Cadiz coast

Cadiz

Founded by the Phoenicians, built up by the Romans, transformed by the Moors, and filled with gold by the conquistadors: Cadiz has seen 3000 years of art, war and exploration.

This private tour with an expert local guide walks and talks you from ruins to riches: you’ll take in ancient artefacts at the Museum of Cadiz and lavish merchants’ mansions bought with profits from the Spanish treasure fleets.

Over lunch at market stalls, tapas bars and little taverns, you’ll even learn how the city’s trading history feeds into its food culture. The Phoenicians sailed in with the region’s first wine grapes and olive trees; meanwhile Christopher Columbus sailed out with Andalusian sherries strong enough to survive the journey to the New World.
