PORTO HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR

Porto Cathedral

porto

Located on the banks of the Douro River, the charming town of Porto was founded in the 4th century by the Romans, and its name comes from “Portus”, meaning port in Latin. Porto played a significant role in the country’s history, particularly during the Age of Discoveries, when it was a major centre for shipbuilding and trade. Today, Porto is a popular destination known for its historic architecture, wine production, and picturesque riverside district of Ribeira.

Your private tour begins at the hilltop where the Porto Cathedral is located in the historic city centre, the birthplace of Porto.  You will see the 12th century Romanesque cathedral and the medieval tower built in the 13th century. Continue your walk towards Aliados Avenue to visit the Sao Bento train station, considered one of the most beautiful train stations in Europe. Enjoy a private visit inside the Palácio da Bolsa, the stunning Stock Exchange Palace, a designated World Heritage site by UNESCO. Finish the tour with a stroll along the riverside in the Ribeira neighbourhood, one of the most authentic and charming neighbourhoods in the city.
